The Word of God says there is only one way we are saved from our sins, which can only be through unconditional faith in the Gospel of Grace.
Once saved you are sealed by the Holy Spirit and become a new creature in Christ.
Read the gospel that saves
1. Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities. Pride is also known as Vanity.
2. Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.
3. Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.
4. Lust is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.
5. Anger is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury (wrath).
6. Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain. It is also called Covetousness.
7. Sloth is the avoidance of physical work (Laziness).
No sin can be whitewashed or removed from our inherent being. Because science can't explain sin the best they can do is call our sin a flaw of nature - a flaw that can never be corrected, except through the Gospel of Christ.
It is has never been turning away from your sins or feeling sorry for what you have done throughout your life.
2 Corinthians 7:10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
Godly sorrow worketh repentance, through a change of attitude whereas, worldly sorrow over guilt, grief, shame is to be let off the hook and not to be judge.
The very fact that you trust in Christ's resurrection for your salvation is a change of mind. You do not repent in order to be saved but because you are saved.
The weblink below clearly defines biblical repentance; the best summary I have read and is scripturally arcuate.

John’s baptism, was for the remission of sins to enter the Kingdom
John came to Israel baptizing with water for the remission of sins as Israel had become estranged from their God. (Mt 3:5-6; Mk 1:4; Lk 3:3; Jn 1:31; Lk 7:29; Acts 10:37)
Baptism into Christ, is being baptised by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ (today Jew and Gentile alike).
This is the only baptism taught by Paul which identifies the believer with Christ, his death, and resurrection. This baptism is performed by the Spirit and does not include water.
(1 Cor 12:13; Eph 4:5; Col 2:12; Gal 3:27; Rom 6:3-4)
Water does not wash away your sins but the shed blood of Christ redeeming you from your sins. (Col 1:14).
It should be reasoned, if you are dunked for your sins, then Christ did not need to die for your sins. (Rom 3:25; 1 Cor 15:3)

This is what the Bible says about Christ's deity...
1. Matthew 1:23
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
2. John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
3. John 10:30 I and my Father are one.
4. Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
5. 1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
6. 1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
7. Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Romans
This is the beginning of the Gospel of Grace as given to the Apostle Paul by Jesus Christ.
The dispensation of Grace (link opens in a popup window)
The Apostle Paul's letters (Romans through to Philemon) are to the Gentile nations - the church today. Israel has been put on hold becoming apostate by the end of Acts.
Read the book of Romans through multiple times. It will ‘stablish’ you in the faith of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery Rom 16:25.
Romans 1-2 teaches you about your sin.
Romans 3-5 teaches salvation by grace apart from the law.
Romans 6-8 teaches you how to serve God in grace.
Romans 9-11 teaches about Israel’s rejection of the Messiah.
Romans 12-16 teaches you how to behave towards others,
rulers, and weaker brothers.
